If you're looking for more board games like the ones you mentioned, two to check out are Twilight Struggle and Twilight Struggle: Red Sea. Also check out Dune Imperium!
4:41 Oriental Empires is criminally underrated. The fact that you can start with the "god's eye" overhead world map view, seamlessly scroll down to ground level to view an individual unit, and then see that every man in the unit has a *different face* is by itself worth the price of admission.
I remember trying that one back in the day but quiting because there was barely any information on what each building does. The combat looked and felt awesome for a 4X game but the player was left in the dark way too much in terms of "what does what".
@@harryvh3356 I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I honestly don't understand. The game has mouseover tooltips on the main map. In displays like the tech tree, clicking on an item tells you what it does (there's a separate button to actually select it as your choice). There's a complete in-game manual organized by topic. I have over 60 hours of play logged in my Steam account, and at no time have I felt that I didn't know what I was doing.
You like history, I'll share mine with you, my old history teacher started an after school club, with two old Commode 64's, we played SSI gamnes a ,ot, the Battle for Normandy and Steel Panthers 3, both I loved, so was the only 15 year old Brat Fem to join the old men playing war games in the local town club. That did mean I got to cheat a lot and get away with it, so be warned never play a war game with a little girl, You'll lose one way or the other. Leona
To those who do not know, Endless Legend will get a sequel arround 2026, it's an exceptionnally immersive and pleasent game with unique asymetric factions, timeless graphics and great gameplay. Amplitude, the studio who made the game also made Endless Space 2, which is, to me, the best turn based space 4X ever. Great list LT, waiting for more :D
So many good games on this list! I'm particularly happy to see Castle Itter - it's a great game that deserves more attention. Fort Sumter is a really solid choice, designed by Mark Herman, one of my favorite game designers. Wizard Warfare was new to me, but looks like my kind of game - hexagons are the best-agons!
WH40k: Armageddon, Revival: Recolonization, Oriental Empires, Quest of Elysium 5, Star Hammer, Imperiums: Greek Wars, Interstellar Space: Genesis, Field of Glory II: Medieval, and Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock are on my list. Also really enjoyed Age of Wonders 3, Millennia, and Endless Legend - highly recommend those!
It’s light, but I recommend Memoir ‘44 as a way to try to drag others into your new tabletop war gaming hobby. And once you’re hooked on that, there’s the Overwatch expansion that allows epic 8 players 4v4 games that are an experience.
So many great titles here! And actually a lot of games Ive never heard of. Battlestar Galactica is awesome and id go back and visit the Age of Wonders series for sure. Millennia is underrated for sure and got hammered on release but is a good 4X overall. Star Dynasties you have convinced me on now haha!
40K Armageddon is a great implementation of the Panzer Corps engine, and very easy to pick up and play if you have played PC before. Picked up Star Hammer recently in the sale - like what I've seen so far. Agree about Endless Legend - still great all these years later and the sequel will hopefully be as good.
Star Hammer uses pretty much the same core game as the Battlestar Galactica game also recommended in this vid. In case you enjoy it and want more. Since their BSG version has a lot of content/DLC available.
The Expedition games are all fantastic! And Oriental Empires is TOTALLY underacted with a We-Go, You-Go system, so you take your turn trying to work out where the enemy will move, the AI has already made the decision of where it's going, and then it takes it turn. This is the most realistic battle system, as in reality, you wouldn't know enemy movement until the enemy made it! Also, well done for including Star Dynasties, the most under the radar game of all!
Pavlov's House is another similar title based on the boardgame from the same creators. If you like Itter, you'll probably enjoy this Stalingrad set version too.
Bought Star Dynasties a couple months ago on your recommendation, and I'm excited to try it! There's a demo, for anyone who wants to give it a try. Also wishlisting Oriental Empires and Revival: Recolonization, not sure how I've missed those up to this point.
I own and agree with a lot of these. 😊 Some forgotten turn-based gems to consider if you do a follow-on list: Stars in Shadow, Fallen Enchantress, Thea: the Awakening, and Warlock. There's others, too, but these are oft overlooked standouts.
4x Empires by GMT games is a great, easy to learn, tabletop wargame! It has a good solo mode and a cool scouting system. If I had someone to play it with regularly I would've kept it especially since hex wargames aren't really my thing, but this one was really fun.
Halls of Hegra is an amazing solitaire war game, lots of dvg games too such as the ´leader series or field commander napoleon. I really like hadrians wall too, great solo game and really puzzly
@@LTGamingRUclips Yeah the Atuuk and Wekkarus Excited for this one Wekkarus was one of my most Played in DWU because i love their Pulse Wave Laser which will be in DW2 aswell as their Racial Tech
I came to check whether HoMM3 and Alpha Centauri are on the list. They are not, and I am content. Why? Because these two games were never forgotten and remain the pinnacle of their genres
Man you really missed out not focusing more on Interstellar Space: Genesis. There's a whole cadre of Space 4x veterans out there that have been searching for 30 years for a proper Master of Orion 2 sequel... IS:G is the only game to hold that crown properly. Was hoping to see that mentioned.
1:44 [warlock of F.M.] foes it have an editor that you can make the map and decide what creatures and heroes are there... And if not...does anyone know any game that you can make pretty much any map you can imagine and use all creatures of DnD and all PC-classes? ...if the recommendation is a game with similar art style it would be nice but it's not a priority, just looking something that I can create anything my story would need... [Please don't mention tabletop simulator it's awful... and no Neverwinter has annoying UI in the editro]
And deservedly so, so far. All versions of Civ have been flawed on release, but this one is not only the usual buggy and unbalanced, it's also way too expensive and has abusive monetization. Going to leave it alone for a year or two and an expansion or two, and then see if maybe it's worth playing. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Totally agree with you - should have sold 10x more copies!

Yes Mark Herman is awesome! Really looking to play more of his actual wargames. Decided to out some games on this one that other may not have know.
WW was excellent. WW2 plays like the first, but with upgrades

Thanks for the rundown matey. There's some cool games in there 😉
Great list and thanks for your channels work!
Wow you got me wanting to go back and play these ones, nice one brother!!!

Star Dynasties is one of my faves ever!
Never even heard of the story of Castle Itter let alone the game. Great price on Steam and looks like it might be playable on the Deck. Thanks Luke.
It's a gem of a game if you're history and be sure to explore the story around it 🚀
@@LTGamingRUclips Definitely picking it up. Thanks bruv.

Some really good titles here.
Will invest in a couple when there's time.
Thanx for putting this video out
Glad you enjoyed it and let us know what games you pick up!
Holy Smokes Gents! Another great video stuffed with interesting options!
Great list, some of these I didn't know about, thanks 👍
I'm glad we continue to do this!
Several games I havent heard of. Glad 40k was on there, thats what got me into panzer corps and hex and counter war games after that.

Imperiums greek wars is a gem game

Thank you really for this recomendaciones. I see that there a alot of interesting ones to check. Keep up your good work
Glad you enjoyed it 🚀🚀
Endless Legend is an amazing game, I'm glad a sequel was recently announced. Day one purchase.
I remember my first turn based love, MASTERS OF MONSTERS. for the 16 BIT Saga Genesis. I was there, I played it.
This is one hell of a list.
Age of Wonders 3 is amazing.

i still play the original age of wonders. made for windows '98, it still plays just as well on windows 10, and all windows OS' between

Will be checking that out!
if you do this for a Real TIme Strat or 4x Distant Worlds Universe would be a good Contender to add to this List
It really would! Looking at the new update for Distant Worlds 2.

The most forgotten turn based games in 2025 is Civ 7.
😂😂😂😂😂 Instant uninstall once they did that DLC drop.

if you get AoW3 - look for the multiplayer community balance mode, the vanilla game is just stupid in terms of balance
