I've been watching since I was a kid. Heck, my days watched should actually be more, but I set most of the things in my on hold to zero at some point because I know whenever I get to them, I'll probably need to start from the beginning anyway. Can't even tell you what was happening where I left off, so restart it is.
So how it gets to all those days watched... it just adds up. You watch at least ten anime each season, assuming they're not shorts, those hours add up to days. I think you end up with more days watched if you actively seek out anime that are already finished. For example, I had a quest long ago to watch all the Gundam series I could. Those are typically around 50 episodes per installment if you're looking at the older ones. So if you're watching a bunch of seasonals and then "binge watch" a whole bunch of finished series while waiting for whatever else is coming, then you'll start to get a lot more days watched added.
As for how I fit in time to watch, I used to be able to do a lot of the things I wanted to do while watching anime. So doing homework, creating art, working on cosplays, chatting on forums/image boards, searching for art, and roleplaying were all things I could easily do while watching anime at the same time. Even as I type this, I'm watching an anime.
Additionally, while going to college, university, and then college again, I would often arrive early to not have to deal with parking problems. This would mean that I would have to sleep in my car or do something else... maybe homework due on another day or I'd watch anime. Sometimes, I'd have hours in between classes... like sometimes even five. So in between classes, I would sometimes just go to my car and eat lunch while watching anime until my next class. I did work too, but they worked around my school schedule. I wasn't close enough to home to want to waste the gas to go all the way back home just to chill for an hour-- especially since my home wasn't exactly peaceful and my brother was probably dirtying it up. So it was just better to stay on campus until all my classes and clubs ended.
Anyway, for a little time until recently, I was traveling a lot though and couldn't really watch too much anime. Then there are times when I'm so busy that I have to put my anime on hold for a month or two. As of right now, I'm a lot more focused on trying to get my career together, so I've been watching less than usual. I mostly just watch my seasonals, but if you only watch seasonals then you're definitely not watching as many days worth of anime. I used to watch longer series pretty easily. You just divide the episode into days. So for a 100 episode anime --> watch 10 episodes for 10 days (that's about 4 hours a day-- and as I said, I sometimes even had five hours in between classes). Should also note, a typical one cour anime (12-ish episodes) is like 5 hours or less to watch. Anyway, now that I'm not in school, any time not spent on my career is kinda more time wasted though. 4 hours of ten episodes is 4 hours of time I could have been spending on marketing or doing jobs.
TL;DR: Mostly just having convenient times to watch anime in abundance allows for more days of anime watched to accumulate. |
