Such a peak fight, go Gorgeous Tiger!!
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End

Woah I've never been this early to one of these before.

But yeah, for anyone who says this season isn't at least reminescent of a battle shounen, Garfiel, after constantly losing the fight, had a sudden power-up after protecting some kids, letting go of his trauma, and being cheered on from the crowd, and ultimately defeated the bad guy in a climatic last fight. This is a scene from literally any battle shounen.

And no, just because this season has more action or feels more like a battle shounen doesn't mean it's suddenly bad. People have their preferences. But to ignore this incredibly obvious observation is just a wee bit tarded.

Regardless. This was the final of Garfiel's entire character arc from season 2 and the beginning of Season 3. Garfiel would be your typical battle shounen protagonist, but he is just a side character in Re:Zero and yet he clears most Battle Shounen MC's in terms of writing.

Aside from that I don't think his power up came out of "nowhere". Surpassing your own limits when you fight for people you care for is quite normal for a human being as presented in real life sports for example. At least he doesn't get some real random power up like a new Super Saiyan form or some out of nowhere new abilities. Garfiel defeated fin with his own arsenal and was at full power after over coming his trauma and fighting for his siblings

@AshTheChamp When you say "from season 2" you mean after he kills Elsa at the end of the season right? And then beginning of season 3 where it's revealed he's having some PTSD from killing her. I only mention it because it feels like it's quite a long arc for him, but really it's maybe a couple episodes' length of content we see of Garfiel's character arc. Again, not saying it's bad or anything, but it's certainly ordinary.

I don't follow with your example - every Super Saiyan form was from being at the brink of death and either having people to protect, or avenging someone who just died (e.g. Krillin for Goku's first SSJ transformation). These were them getting newfound powers after surpassing their own limits, and other than just an overall upgrade to their phyiscal abilities, they didn't get any "new" abilities that they weren't able to do before.

Other than the literal transformation of changing hair color and/or length, I don't see how this was any different from Garfiel, who was getting pummeled even while Kurgan was just using one cleaver (i.e. he didn't take him seriously), suddenly surpassing his limits and gaining newfound strength to beat Kurgan using all his cleavers.

But we're delving into minute details here, when really I just wanted to point out that the comparison to battle shounen is not unwarranted, considering the visual and thematic similiarities, even if Re Zero may have an additional layer of depth to justify it.

ok, this is the first episode from the second half that i actually liked, funny considering that this was supposed to be a minor villain that we knew cannot get a W against the good guys
this is a mute giy an yet i found him much better than the previous 2 bad guys, he wasnt annoying, wasnt whining all the time an ofc being mute didnt had the trash dialogue from the previous 2 guys, an more importantly, he felt to a extent, like an actual threat, he managed to do some harm against the good guy, something that the previous 2 failed to do
i wont say he is an improvement because thats not saying much but ill say he was a decent villain, had a fun a well animated fight an overall it was a good episode

Meh Garf fight was nice to look at but not really sure why he just suddenly won.
As for Al he obviously needs someone to figure out her power's weakness. Same with the gluttony guy I guess. Not sure how he survived being torn to pieces, I guess that's why it was off screen.

Finally a villain who doesn't behave and chatter like a delusional edgy teen, Kurgan should've been the main villain instead of those cringey archbishops.

Kurgan best character in S3 :)

Yay the thread is back.

I liked Al's segment way more than Garfiel's. There was no fish-eye effect and no flashy tiger head animation, but the fight itself is choreographed so precisely.
Plus his JK impersonation is hilarious.

Someone wrote above that it was unclear how Garf defeated Kurgan. The animation was really great, the person who made the best moments for One Piece was responsible for it. But it seemed to me that the visual component did not fit into the overall picture...as if they invited the director of Monogatari

wtf happened to this thread

Some LN Extra Details (Volume 19, Prologue 0.1-0.2, Chapter 1.1, 2.1, 3.1-3.2 )
- It was Subaru that taught Garfiel the sixth sense term, which exists other than his five normal senses
- Kurgan had multiple opportunity to finish off Garfiel beforehand, but he did not take it, and Garfiel feels humiliated because of it.
- Garfiel used his untransformation to escape from Kurgan's grasp when he was holding him in his tiger form.
- Garfiel sometimes sneaks some healing magic on him as a first aid kit for his injury during his duel.
- Garfield was blown into the top of the government building tower by Kurgan and found the mirror Metia. He tried to used it to communite with others, but his legs are pulled back down by Kurgan and breaks the loose floor and breaks down lower to the sewers.
- Al references Lust as a `T-1000 wannabe` from the Terminator series when he's talking about her being shape-shifting is scary.

Differences from LN
- Gaston shows more bravery even though he is scared at that moment
- The Otto fight scene was focused first in the LN. Maybe they are focusing on Garfield first to keep the hype going.
- Kurgan's details is presented as conversation in the anime, but it is just plain exposition in the LN.
- There are no demi beast when Garfiel found his half-siblings, Kurgan is straight attacking Garfiel once he found him.
- Garfield final attack is using his fang and ripping out half of Kurgan's neck after his hand's bone is shattered by his attack. it might not be noticeable at a first glance in the anime since it seems smaller and the background blends well with Kurgan's color.

Garfield the Gorgeous Tiger against The Genie... I preferred the fight against Miss Lust, she's detestable but extremely well animated. I can say the producers of this show really, REALLY butter both sides of the bread with the incredible facial expressions, the evil grins, and her eyes and those eyelashes. Some amazing sakuga with her getting bashed to slime and also with Garfiel slashing up that genie- at one point it distorted into a drawing with blue marker I think- very cool! Those little kids that are his siblings are so adorable I'm glad nothing happened to them.

The only frustration now is that this has become like Demon Slayer, a whole season dedicated to just fighting demons who are impossible to defeat and it takes supernatural levels of last resorts and destroying an entire city just to kill one of them.
Ms Lust actually mentions the dead witch she was after in passing, almost like she needed to remind us of the paper thin plot this thing has, and how she nor the rest of the show really seem to care that much about it. She never seemed to care, and seems to take delight in fighting and killing. If she really gave a shit about some dead witch she'd not have taken over a whole city and started a war, she could have easily just manipulated a few people and used her abilities to do the rest.

If you've read the novel and know everything that happens in this battle, then it will all look fantastic. If you're only into the anime, you'll be sitting there rewatching it three times until you understand what's going on at all. At first glance, it seemed like Kurgan died because Garf growled at him. Also, all these karate moves looked stupid because there was no impact from them. I hadn't noticed Garf doing karate before. It seems that the animation director decided to just fill every second with any movement as long as it was moving. It's still the best fight in 3 seasons, but it's really confusing and messy.
Maybe I just don't like style of this director with his tendency to overcomplicate everything.

I'm this season's hater, but I believe I can explain this point.
My understanding is that Bishops do everything by the gospel (at least when it was in their hands), so they don't know why everything is happening or why they need these things, so they don't care much and don't even cooperate with each other. They could also believe that their failure to obtain these things is also part of grandious future in the gospel.

(But I could be totally wrong)
